Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:23)
You are serving the Lord Christ.
Before Nicole and I transitioned out of our role at The District in June 2022, I had served the church as a vocational pastor for almost 15 years. And though I would never say it out loud, I kind of saw myself as uniquely God’s servant. Cause my work was in the church, it was uniquely “for the Lord.”
Don’t we all kind of look at Travis and all of our pastors that way, too?
Don’t get me wrong, Travis carries a heavy load. With joy, he serves, loves, and leads for the advancement of the Kingdom of God in Delano and Wichita. He makes more sacrifices than we could know or see. I’ve seen it up close, his life is a living sacrifice for the Lord.
But the work that Travis does for the Lord is no more significant to the advancement of the Kingdom of God than the work YOU do every day. No matter what you do. Don’t make the mistake of thinking ministry is just for the pastors.
We’re ALL called to do ministry wherever we are; whatever we do!
I was afraid to step away from vocational ministry at first because I felt like I was betraying God’s calling on our family. But I was making the mistake of believing that being a pastor was the only kind of “calling.” We’re realizing daily that our business, Fountain Homes LLC, is a calling from the Lord.
Through our business, we can connect with and love on a whole network of people we never would have met in our role on the church staff. We just have to be faithful to serve Him first in all our business endeavors. And prioritize the gospel of Jesus as our primary work.
And when we embrace that mindset, aiming to bring God glory in our workplace, in our neighborhood, in our household raising our kids, the load our pastors carry will feel smaller and not so heavy. And God’s glory will fill the crevices of Wichita where our pastors will never step foot.
